Three major airlines have added 11 round-trip flights from Texas to Columbus for the weekend of the Texas-Ohio State football game, which is scheduled for Aug. 30.
American Airlines has added three flights from Austin and Dallas, Delta Air Lines has added flights from Austin and San Antonio, and Southwest Airlines has added six flights from Austin, Dallas and Houston.
The game at Ohio Stadium will feature two of the top teams in the country, according to the Associated Press preseason poll. The Longhorns top the poll while the Buckeyes are ranked third.
The game is a rematch of last year’s national semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl, which Ohio State won, 28-14. The Buckeyes eventually won the national championship.
It’s the first time Texas will visit Columbus in 20 years and only the second time in history. The Longhorns beat the Buckeyes 25-22 on Sept. 10, 2005, then went on to win the national championship later that season.
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority has also announced the addition of other flights for other games later this year, both home and away.
For the Buckeyes’ game at the University of Washington on Sept. 27, airlines have announced new flights from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to Seattle for that weekend, including additional flights by Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
When Ohio State travels to the University of Wisconsin for an Oct. 18 game, American Airlines and United Airlines have each added flights for that weekend from Columbus to Madison, Wis.
Airlines also have scheduled additional flights for two other Ohio State home games.
United Airlines has added a flight from State College, Pa., for the weekend of the Ohio State-Penn State game in Columbus, which is Nov. 1, while American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have added flights from Los Angeles to Columbus for the Buckeyes’ home game on Nov. 15 against UCLA.
