State lawmakers have moved to amend a piece of proposed legislation that would allow doctors to offer apologies to patients and families without being held liable.

The House Judiciary committee removed several provisions from House Bill 276 but kept the broader application of Ohio’s ‘apology statute’ in place.

As introduced, the bill, sponsored by Rep. Peter Stautberg, R-Cincinnati, would have abolished the “loss of chance” liability theory created by the Supreme Court of Ohio.
