State Sens. Michael Skindell, D-Lakewood, and Charleta Tavares, D-Bexley, have introduced a bill into the legislature that would permit married same-sex couples to file joint state income tax returns.

The proposal, Senate Bill 259, would revise the applicable passage in state law to say “two individuals” instead of “husband and wife.”

In a statement, Skindell and Tavares referenced a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that allows married same-sex couples to file joint federal income tax returns.
