Bill would permit claims of racial bias in death penalty cases

A bill focused on racial bias and the death penalty has landed in the Ohio General Assembly.

Senate Bill 183, known as the Racial Justice Act, is sponsored by Sen. Charleta Tavares, D-Bexley, and would allow capital defendants and inmates to use statistical evidence in support of a claim that their sentences were “sought or imposed” in part because of racial discrimination.
