A pair of House members have joined two Senators in introducing a bill into the legislature that would overhaul the state’s custody standards when a sexual assault results in a pregnancy.

House Bill 257, sponsored by Reps. Nickie Antonio, D-Lakewood, and Kirk Schuring, R-Canton, would prohibit custody, visitation, notice and consent of adoption for men who father children through rape.

The measure is a companion proposal to Senate Bill 171, sponsored by Sens. Nina Turner, D-Cleveland, and Charleta Tavares, D-Bexley.
