Legislation would mandate insurance coverage of HPV screenings, vaccines

The sponsor of a bill that would require insurance providers to cover human papillomavirus screenings and vaccines said the measure was drafted to put HPV prevention within the reach of more Ohioans.

“Providing insurance coverage for the HPV vaccine in Ohio is a preventative measure that will save money in the long run,” said Sen. Edna Brown, D-Toledo. “There should be no question that paying for a vaccination to reduce the incidence of disease is significantly less expensive than covering cancer treatments further down the road.”
