Proposed legislation would expand criminal penalties for animal abuse

A Canfield lawmaker’s quest to help crack down on animal cruelty is continuing through House Bill 90.

The proposal, which would make animal abuse by an animal’s custodian or caregiver a fifth-degree felony, is the second bill Rep. Ron Gerberry has introduced this legislative session that stems from 15 dogs being discovered dead or dying at High Caliber K-9 Kennel in Youngstown in 2008.
