Lawmaker resumes push to institute debit cards for Ohio income tax refunds

Sen. Eric Kearney of Cincinnati has reintroduced a measure into the Ohio General Assembly that would give taxpayers the option of receiving their state income tax refunds in the form of a prepaid debit card.

The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 56, charges the require the state’s Department of Taxation commissioner with establishing a prepaid debit card program.

Currently, all state tax refunds are issued in the form of a check or direct deposit.
