Sen. John Eklund is joining in on the push to prorate fees on nonrenewable driver’s licenses for temporary Ohio residents.

Eklund, R-Chardon, is sponsoring Senate Bill 272, a bill that would establish, under certain circumstances, a grace period and prorated fees when a temporary resident applies for a nonrenewable license. The bill had its first hearing Wednesday.

The proposal, which was crafted to aid Ohio’s agricultural economy, is a companion bill to House Bill 333, sponsored by Rep. Ron Young, R-Leroy.
