Appeals court judge: Lawyer not ineffective, could not do job without conveying 'bad news'

A three-judge appellate panel recently affirmed a Franklin County Court of Common Pleas judgment convicting a man of possession of cocaine with specifications and tampering with evidence.

The 10th District Court of Appeals panel last week rejected Ricardo Rodriguez’s arguments that his rights were violated and he was denied a fair trial when he was not permitted to terminate his counsel, that closing comments from the prosecution created unfair prejudice and that case evidence lacked sufficient weight.
